Bilbo was soon reunited with his companions. Bilbo and the travellers had stopped for the night when goblins and a pack of wargs found them near a patch of pine trees.
The dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf climbed up the trees to escape, but the goblins were not going to leave without killing them. They started to burn the trees down. The Warg Chieftain was ordering the other wargs around when Gandalf picked up a pinecone, and with his magic set it ablaze in a green fire. He threw it down hitting the chieftain. It rolled around on the ground burning while Gandalf threw more and more pinecones down. The goblins and wargs fled and the group was rescued by eagles.
When an eagle grabbed Dori, Bilbo had to jump and grab Dori's legs before he was forgotten. This prompted Bilbo to groan "My arms! My poor arms," and Dori to cry, "My legs! Beorn learned their story and gave a large number of provisions to help their quest. Beorn also lent several ponies to be used until the group reached Mirkwood.
However, Beorn did not fully trust the dwarves, so Bilbo saw Beorn giving careful watch to see that his ponies were unharmed. Eventually the company reached Mirkwood, where the ponies were let go to several of the dwarves discontent and Gandalf left the group as well, warning them, "Do not stray off the path. Eventually the provisions ran low and the Company was forced to send Bilbo up a tree to see where the forest ended.
Bilbo climbed up a tree, where a rewarding breeze of cool air and butterflies met him. Bilbo only saw more forest, so when he reluctantly climbed back down, he did not see that the forest ended.
He reported his findings to the dwarves, where they met the news with ill comfort, angry that the dwarves were fatter than Bilbo and so could not climb the trees to feel cool air or see the butterflies.
Eventually the last provisions were eaten. The Company then came upon the Enchanted streamof which they had been warned not to drink by Beorn. Bilbo saw a boat on the other side, leading the dwarves to retrieve it. A deer came out of nowhere when all the dwarves were on the other side. A dwarf shot it where it died, on the other side. The dwarves hoped for venison for dinner when Bilbo realized that Bombur was drowning.
The dwarves fished him out to find he had been put to sleep by the stream's magic, but the boat was knocked away, ending the hope for venison. While wandering down the path, the dwarves saw lights in the forest. Deciding that they would rather leave the path than starve to death they headed after the lights. As soon as they got to the lights, they went out and one of their party fell asleep.
On the third time all of them fell asleep. Bilbo in Mirkwood Forest When Bilbo awoke in the night, he was alone. He cursed the dwarves for leaving the path and discovered that spiders had captured his companions.
Bilbo was forced to find his lost companions and cut through the cocoons the spiders had formed around his companions. He distracted the spiders by improvising several insulting songs to irritate them, and succeeded when the creatures left their domain to find the intruder and eat him.
Bilbo killed a few by throwing stones at them and by stabbing them with Sting. The spiders never found him, since during this time Bilbo made use of the Ring to remain invisible. After freeing the dwarves, he led them into a charge against the spiders, where the company killed dozens of the arachnids. Bilbo avoided being caught by using the ring to stay invisible, and followed them into the halls of Thranduilthe elven-king, where they were held captive.

Eventually Bilbo was able to rescue the dwarves by stealing the butler Galion 's keys, and found a way for the company to escape the Woodland Realm by stowing away in a number of empty barrels, which periodically were taken by the elves up the River Running to Lake-town for trading purposes.
The plan worked, and soon they all arrived at Lake-town, which they found to be a small town occupied by men that Smaug would frequently attack, though he had not been seen in many years.
Thus, Bilbo and the dwarves spent several weeks in Lake-town as guests of honor, though Bilbo eventually caught cold. Upon discovering the keyhole, the door was opened and Bilbo was sent in alone in order to scout ahead and perhaps to steal some treasure from Smaug. Bilbo conversing with Smaug Smaug, though unable to see the hobbit, tried to figure out who or what the intruder was, but Bilbo refused to tell the dragon his true identity, answering Smaug's questions only in riddles.

While invisible, Bilbo noticed that Smaug had a bare spot on his jewel-encrusted underbelly. Finally, Bilbo removed the ring and Smaug saw that he had stolen a cup, causing him to go into a terrible rage. After Bilbo made it out of Smaug's lair safely, he convinced Thorin and the other dwarves to enter the side-door and close it behind them, which saved their lives when Smaug left the mountain, and flying to the side-door, scorched the surrounding area.
Foiled, the dragon flew off to Lake-town with the intent to destroy it once and for all. On Smaug's arrival, Bard shot the Black Arrow at the bare spot, killing Smaug and sending him to rot at the bottom of the lake, but destroying part of Lake-town. Even though Frodo was suspicious of Bilbo, he showed a very small contempt and was sadden that Bilbo left for Rivendell. Bilbo later gave Frodo Sting and his Mithril shirt for him to use during his quest. Bilbo nearly killed Frodo due to seeing the Ring again, but he immediately broke down into tears, guilty for putting that burden on Frodo, who instead of being upset, comforted his uncle as he cried.
When Bilbo asked of the Ring, Frodo, to spare his uncle's feelings, said he lost it. Sackville-Baggins Bilbo detests his cousins as much as they dislike him. He especially strongly disliked Lobelia because she tried to steal his own spoons that once belonged to his family.
He especially is mad when they are auctioning off his things before he steals his house back. After Bilbo adopted Frodo, his cousin Otho had not been Bilbo's heir anymore and Frodo became his own.
They had a big family feud that would last for the last years until Frodo and Lobelia made peace with each other, ending their feud. First meetings were no taken lightly. Thorin had judged and doubted Bilbo way too much. They first met in Bag End, where Thorin was not impressed with the hobbit.
While Bilbo was stalling the trolls, Thorin showed one trust that he was stalling the trolls to be frozen in the Sun's light. Bilbo killed the Orc that would kill Thorin. Bilbo then proceeds in protecting Thorin's body. This anger was proved wrong.
It was just a fury out of worry Thorin caught the hobbit by surprise and embraced Bilbo in a long-term hug and both look at each other and out to the sunrise in the sight of the Lonely Mountain. Their relationship is stronger in The Desolation of Smaug.
Thorin eventually cared and to be protective of Bilbo.
It is when Bilbo mysteriously is nowhere to be found. Bofur informs him of Bilbo's disappearance, which makes Thorin look worried about the hobbit's whereabouts.
After his disagreement with Thranduil, Thorin had to rely on Bilbo to rescue them. Bilbo does eventually get them out by stealing a set of keys and frees them all. Most of the dwarves are reluctant to go with Bilbo's plans to go escape via barrels.
It was only Thorin who understood Bilbo's plans even after Bilbo pleaded with Thorin through his eyes and orders them to as he says. After they leave, Thorin gave a thankful recognition. He realized Bilbo did something incredibly stupid to make Smaug awoken. After it got worse, Balin, tired about Thorin's arrogance and stubbornness, begged him to go in there and save Bilbo, but Thorin was reluctant. Balin knows that Thorin had become fond of Bilbo and started to care about him. He decides to do the right thing and save Bilbo.
Thorin came for Bilbo in the end. Thorin also protected Bilbo from Smaug until the other dwarves came in. Risked his life rather than wanting harm to befall upon Bilbo, He also starts to call Bilbo by his first name, as a friend like he'd s done with the other company members.
In the time, when Bilbo falls and is on the floor, Thorin shouts for Bilbo to run before Smaug could hurt him. Their relationship is strained when Thorin allows the gold sickness to overcome him. He was later hurt and felt betrayed that Bilbo gave away the Arkenstone.
However, they eventually make up by the end of the movie, but Thorin passes on while Bilbo survives. Gandalf Gandalf became friends with Bilbo and chose the hobbit to be the luck fourteenth member. The Istar is very fond and protective of Bilbo, even becoming his protector, mentor and a father figure. He also worries when Gandalf is not with them when Gandalf told them to wait at the overlook. They reunite the night before the Battle takes place where both are in a short, yet happy reunion.
After the Arkenstone trade, Gandalf worries what will happen to Bilbo when Thorin finds out what he's done. Eventually, Gandalf tells Thorin to let Bilbo go. Gandalf refuses for Bilbo to go and worries that he'll hurt himself.
Bilbo still defies him. After Thorin's death, Gandalf comforts the mourning hobbit and travels with him in the return journey. The wizard already figured out Bilbo had the ring ever since they escaped the Goblin Tunnels. Gandalf comes right out and says he is very fond of him, but a "[small] fellow in a wide world. He visited Bilbo from time to time and supported him when he turned years old.
He seems to care about and becomes fond of Bilbo more than the other dwarves do. Almost seeing Bilbo faint, he asked if he was alright, which was not. When Bilbo came after changing his mind to fallow the dwarves until the end, Balin smiled at the hobbit's signature.
Balin was glad to see him alive and coming to their rescue. Near the journey's end, Bilbo is accompanied by Balin half-way.
The latter tells Bilbo that he doesn't know what awaits him but advises Bilbo not to wake the dragon. Additionally, the courage of hobbits never ceases to amaze Balin. As Thorin starts to fall, the dwarf terrifyingly confides to Bilbo that the Arkenstone is to remain lost. Balin says goodbye to Bilbo before he leaves and watches his friend leave. He was at first are not that respectable to Bilbo's possessions.
Bilbo Baggins Relationships
He treats Bilbo as if he was their third piece of their siblings. He abandoned Bilbo to the trolls, but they both came back in the end. Fili was frantically looking for Bilbo and relieved to see him alive. Bilbo is scared when his friend is captured and killed right in front of him and his friends.
