I like how there is a lot of character development especially in Cattie brie. Their relationship is not on the best of terms and this provides a great side plot. Catti-brie was a female human and a friend and later wife to Drizzt Do'Urden. protectiveness over Catti-brie was beginning to take its toll on their relationship.
The romance between Catti-brie and Wulfgar also comes out of nowhere. Of course we saw it coming but there was no build up. Just a passionate kiss here and there and the worry they have for each other. Another relationship that's touched on but never explored is the one between Drizzt and Alustriel. It's high school writing at best in my opinion, I would expect much more from someone who changed their major so they could write for a living.
The characters are too overpowered. Catti-brie is never before mentioned having the ability to shoot a bow and arrow with unerring accuracy.
Legolas, I mean Catti-brie, literally picks up a bow and suddenly is the world's greatest archer. Drizzt cannot be beat and Wulfgar has unending stores of "adrenalin" that get him through anything no matter how tired he is. The dwarf is stronger than an ox and apparently has no trouble leaping through the air to bash people in the face whereby they immediately die or pass out.
Or lack there of. Or how can a character develop when there's nothing there? They were increasingly hypocritical, judgmental, and self-righteous. Bruenor says that the dwarves deal with Theives by cutting off their hands and that is it a fitting punishment because he so loathes them.
And yet there is little Regis. Drizzt's morals seem only to apply when he isn't in battle and nothing seems to deter him from killing everything in sight when much more peaceful solutions can be reached.Sojourn - R. A. Salvatore
Wulfgar seems like he is nothing but a roaring, killing god. Nothing can stop him and he has no personality. It seems his role in the story is for action filler.
And the biggest one of all. That's right, oh yes, it's: The woman screams hypocrite every move she makes. She's gets her own paragraph for this one: In one battle scene Catti-brie and Bruenor rush to the aid of Drizzt and Wulfgar while they battle pirates. Since Pirates are human Catti-brie refuses to kill them and instead takes a different approach, not killing them directly but making sure they can't hurt her friends.
Then in the next fight scene she's involved in Catti-brie picks off bandits with her little bow like she's shooting cans in the backyard. She has no lament about killing these humans or how she hates to murder them so she finds another way.
Streams of Silvertells the story of the group as they journey to Mithral HallBruenor's boyhood home. Artemis Entreria recurring character in the series, also makes his first appearance.
Timeless (The Legend of Drizzt, #31) by R.A. Salvatore
In later books, Artemis is Drizzt's equal in combat, and they clash often due to their conflicting views and goals. In the book The Halfling's Gem , Artemis kidnaps Regis while in the employ of a powerful crime lord. Drizzt and Wulfgar chase the assassin by sea, with the help of Captain Deudermontto recover Regis.
Drizzt ends up in combat with Artemis Entreri, who leaves the battle wounded. At the end of the book the group finds Regis, and Guenhwyvar kills Artemis's employer. Legacy of the Drow is a tetralogyunlike the previous two trilogies.
The short story, Dark Mirror, in the Realms of Valor anthology, describes events just prior to the series. Wulfgar is seemingly slain by a yochloland Drizzt returns to Menzoberranzan to prevent his friends from being further attacked by dark elves. The drow launch a second attack against Mithril Hall during the Time of Troubles. It is eventually repelled and Drizzt returns to his friends.
Passage to Dawn , the final book in the Legacy of the Drow series and published two years after Siege of Darkness, picks up the story six years after the drow attack.
Sea of Swords
Drizzt and Catti-Brie work with Captain Deudermont on his pirate-hunting ship, with the Companions of the Hall ultimately fighting the powerful demon Errtu who is aided by the Crystal Shard, which had previously been buried under a mountain of snow.
Wulfgar, never truly dead, returns to life from the Abyss as the demon who had held his soul was destroyed. Drizzt is the main character in only two books of the Paths of Darkness series. The Silent Blade describes the group's journey to permanently destroy the Crystal Shard.
Sea of Swords continues Drizzt's story after the events of The Spine of the Worldwhich focuses on Wulfgar, and Servant of the Shardwhich has Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle as the main characters.
